Meghan Tieu

Graduate Student Research Assistant

Meghan Tieu graduated from Harvard College with an A.B. in Economics and a Certificate in Health Policy in 2007. She is currently a second year medical student at Stanford School of Medicine. Meghan joined the SNAPL in summer 2008 and is involved in the working memory load and pain study as well as a study looking at the analgesic effect of I.V. Lidocaine.

Her broader research interests include understanding the affective components of pain processing and the interaction between physical manifestations of pain and emotional suffering. In the future, Meghan is interested in learning more about the Buddhist concept of Dukkha, which is often translated as "suffering" or "pain," and how mind-body treatments and theories of suffering might be investigated through science. Outside of research and medicine, Meghan enjoys jogging, playing tennis and piano, napping, and basking in the amazing California sunshine.
